Used-car appraisal app for Ontario dealerships

Appraise for Dealers prices Ontario trade-ins from Canadian dealer listings near your rooftop, with wholesale grades, a max buy built from your own costs, an OBD scan that flags codes cleared before the appraisal, and AI photo checks priced at your rates. Ontario is several markets in one, from the GTA and Ottawa to the snow belts, the border cities and the North, and the appraisal should know where a car has been.

Local conditions

How do Ontario’s regions change what you check?

A car from Mississauga, one from Sudbury and one from Windsor can be the same year and km and still need very different appraisals.

The GTA and Golden Horseshoe

Heavy salt, crawl traffic and spring potholes. Look under the car, at the rims and tires, and at brake wear that doesn’t match the km.

The snow belts

Lake-effect snow off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay buries London, Barrie, Owen Sound and the Bruce Peninsula, and road crews lay down salt and sand to match. Check rockers, rear arches and brake lines closely.

Road-salt checklist

Ottawa and the east

Long, cold winters and plenty of cars that crossed from Quebec, where winter tires are mandatory. Ask whether a second set of wheels comes with the car; a good winter set is worth pricing in.

Northern Ontario

Sudbury, North Bay, Timmins and Thunder Bay mean long highway runs, gravel shoulders and deep cold. Expect stone chips, cracked windshields, wildlife-strike repairs and frame wear on trucks.

The border cities

Windsor, Sarnia, Fort Erie and Niagara see cars with US histories. Check for a miles-to-km odometer conversion and a history that crosses the border.

Farm and work trucks

Rural and southwestern Ontario stores see trucks with field hours, towing wear and mud-packed frames. Compare engine run time with km where the truck reports it, and check diesel readiness monitors.

Value

How are Ontario trade-ins priced?

Ontario is several markets, so Appraise prices from listings near your rooftop, not a provincial average.

  • Same trim and similar km in Ontario within your rooftop’s search range: 300 km by default, or 160 km, 500 km or the whole province
  • Manitoba and Quebec listings come in only when fewer than three comparable cars match at home, useful in the North
  • Recently sold listings count ahead of asking prices when there are at least three
  • Each comp shows its city, province and distance, so you can see exactly what the value used

Values are estimates from comparable listings, each with its comp count and a confidence label.

Rules of the road

What Ontario rules affect a trade-in appraisal?

A short list for appraisers. Check OMVIC and ServiceOntario for current requirements.

  • Dealer registration. Ontario dealers and salespeople are registered with OMVIC, the provincial regulator.
  • Safety Standards Certificate. Needed to plate most used vehicles. A dealer can sell a vehicle without one only “as is”, with the required wording in the contract, so decide how you’ll retail the car before you price recon.
  • All-in price advertising. Advertised prices must include all fees and charges except HST and licensing. Keep that in mind when you compare Ontario asking prices with other provinces’.
  • No emissions testing. Drive Clean testing for passenger vehicles ended in 2019, so no plate-renewal step checks readiness monitors. Check them yourself.
  • Branded vehicles. Ontario brands written-off vehicles as irreparable, salvage or rebuilt. Read the history before you value the car.
  • Liens. Search Ontario’s Personal Property Security Registration and clear any payout on the bill of sale.
  • Tax. HST applies to vehicle sales and is generally charged after a trade-in is deducted; check current rules for your deals.

Does Appraise work everywhere in Ontario?

Yes, from Windsor to Ottawa and north to Thunder Bay. Comps start from listings near your own rooftop, so a Kingston store and a Kitchener store each see their own market.

Is the free OBD reader available in Ontario?

Yes. Free Bluetooth OBD reader with your 14-day trial for the first 25 dealerships, anywhere in Canada, Ontario included. One reader per dealership, while spots last; book a demo to claim yours.

Can Appraise tell me what a car needs to pass a safety?

No. It isn’t a safety inspection. It flags damage and wear in your photos and codes on the scan, and you price the items you expect your licensed technician to find, using your own recon rates.

Our store is in the North and listings are thin. Does it still work?

Yes. Set the search range to 500 km or the whole province. When fewer than three comparable cars match in Ontario, Appraise adds Manitoba and Quebec listings, and every value shows its comp count and a confidence label.
