Used-car appraisal app for Saskatchewan and Manitoba dealerships

Appraise for Dealers prices prairie trade-ins from Canadian dealer listings near your rooftop, with wholesale grades, a max buy built from your own costs, an OBD scan that flags codes cleared before the appraisal, and AI photo checks priced at your rates. It is built for prairie conditions: minus-forty mornings, gravel grid roads, summer hail, and farm trucks with more hours on them than the odometer shows.

Key facts

  • Out-of-province unitsVehicles coming from another province generally need a provincial safety inspection before registration in either province.
  • No emissions testingNeither province tests passenger vehicles for emissions, so nothing at registration checks readiness monitors.
  • Local comps firstListings in your own province within your search range, then neighbouring provinces only if fewer than three cars match.
  • Battery flagUnder 12.2 V engine off, or 13.2 V running, is flagged on the scan.
  • Cleared-code flagsRed flag at under 200 km, 10 warm-ups or 5 hours since codes were cleared.
  • 14-day free trialNo card needed. Free Bluetooth OBD reader with your 14-day trial for the first 25 dealerships.

What should prairie appraisers watch for?

Prairie cars live through long cold, long distances and hard summers. Build these into every appraisal.

Minus forty

Winnipeg and Saskatoon cold snaps find every weak battery, starter and block heater cord. Check the cord and plug, cold-start behaviour, heater and defrost output, and cracked plastic trim and weatherstripping.

Grid roads and gravel

Gravel grid roads pit windshields, sandblast front ends and pack dust into frame rails, brake hardware and cabin air filters. On newer vehicles, price windshield replacement with camera recalibration.

Summer hail

Storms across southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba can dent every horizontal panel. Check the roof, hood and trunk lid in raking light, ask about claims, and price PDR from your own matrix.

Farm trucks

Farm trucks can carry heavy towing, field hours and long idle time. Compare engine run time with km where the truck reports it, look at the hitch, bed and rear springs, and check diesel readiness monitors.

Wildlife strikes

Deer collisions are common on prairie highways. Look for front-end repairs: mismatched paint, new headlamps, uneven panel gaps and a replaced radiator support.

Salt and sand in town

Regina, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Brandon put salt and sand on city streets. A rural car may have seen less salt, but check rockers, rear arches and brake lines either way.

Value

How are prairie trade-ins priced?

Markets get thin outside Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Regina, so Appraise lets each rooftop decide how far to look.

  • Same trim and similar km in your own province within your rooftop’s search range: 300 km by default, or 160 km, 500 km or the whole province
  • Saskatchewan stores draw on Alberta and Manitoba, and Manitoba stores on Saskatchewan and Ontario, only when fewer than three cars match at home
  • Each comp shows its city, province and distance, and each value its comp count and a confidence label
  • Wholesale grades from Extra clean to Rough, then your max buy from your own costs

Values are estimates from comparable listings, each with its comp count and a confidence label.

Scan

How does the scan help on high-hour farm trucks?

Plug a Bluetooth reader into the port under the dash. The scan reads what the dashboard doesn’t show, in the cold as well as the shop.

  • Distance, warm-ups and minutes since codes were cleared, with a red flag on a recent clear
  • Diesel readiness monitors, including the particulate filter and NOx aftertreatment
  • Total engine run time where the truck reports it, to compare against km
  • Battery voltage and the engine computer VIN against the truck’s VIN

Generic OBD-II reads engine and emissions systems, not airbag, ABS or body modules.

Rules of the road

What should you know about registration in Saskatchewan and Manitoba?

A short list for appraisers. Check SGI, Manitoba Public Insurance and your provincial dealer regulator for current requirements.

  • Dealer licensing. Both provinces license motor vehicle dealers; check your provincial regulator for current rules.
  • Out-of-province inspection. A vehicle coming from another province generally needs a safety inspection before it can be registered. Put the inspection and any repairs it finds in your recon.
  • Write-offs. Both public insurers track written-off vehicles, and a repaired write-off generally needs an inspection before it returns to the road. Read the history before you value the car.
  • No emissions testing. Neither province runs routine emissions tests on passenger vehicles. Check readiness monitors yourself.
  • Liens. Search the provincial personal property registry and clear any payout on the bill of sale.
  • Tax. Sales tax on vehicles works differently in the two provinces; check the current rules, including trade-in credits, for your deals.

Is the free OBD reader available in Saskatchewan and Manitoba?

Yes. Free Bluetooth OBD reader with your 14-day trial for the first 25 dealerships, anywhere in Canada, Saskatchewan and Manitoba included. One reader per dealership, while spots last; book a demo to claim yours.

We’re a rural dealer. Will there be enough comps?

Usually. Set the search range to 500 km or the whole province. When fewer than three comparable cars match at home, Appraise adds listings from neighbouring provinces, and every value shows how many comps it used and a confidence label.

Does it work at minus thirty?

Bluetooth readers keep working in the cold; phones are the weak link. Keep the phone in an inside pocket between cars and a charger in the truck. The app’s big buttons work with gloves on.

Can it read engine hours on farm trucks?

Where the truck reports total engine run time over OBD-II, the scan shows it so you can compare it with the km. Many older vehicles don’t report it.
